I've made 5 deals in the past week or so and am reasonably satisfied with our much more youthful roster. However, I'm still feeling that trading fever...so let's throw a few more names out there and see what happens. Our relentless purge of players born before 1977 continues...
1) Torii Hunter - Perennial GG CF, 31 homers, still only 31 years old. He certainly won't come cheap, but I might as well shop him around a little.
2) Adam Kennedy - Great defense at 2B, hit well vs. RHP, 30 years old.
3) Scot Shields - Amazingly consistent and durable RH reliever with career ERA under 3. 31 years old.
4) Esteban Loaiza - RH starter, 34 years old, 26 decent starts, much better after he returned from early season injury, career pattern suggests that he should be very good next season, the A's will certainly give him the opportunity.
5) Craig Wilson - OF/1B, 30 years old, disappointing with Yankees, but still hit lefties well.
6) Damion Easley - IF, 36 years old, good pop of the bench as utiity IF.
7) Toby Hall - Catcher, 30 years old, has full use of his arms and legs.
8) Bernie Castro - 2B, only 27 years old! And speedy! WAS did play him a lot in Sept/Oct
Okay, that covers everyone born before 1977. I'm content to keep most of these guys, but might as well find out if someone else wants them more. Of course, we're primarily interested in young players with upside. Elite prospects and picks are nice also, but we don't have room to take on any lesser prospects. In fact, we would be willing to part with some of our lesser prospects, picks, players, and/or cash if the prize is attractive enough. For example, we may have more young carded pitchers than we need right now.
I sure hope we win that championship this season because it's looking like most of our team will be in other uniforms next season.
