I'm sure that the question that everyone is asking after seeing my post on Surprise. Thanks, I'm so glad you asked!
Austin also got rather carried away in the auction, adding 7 players and spending a lot more money than Surprise. However, they only had 21 carded players heading into the auction and aren't feeling a roster crunch. On the other hand, their acquisitions were rather unbalanced with 5 new pitchers and only two new batters, one of which is merely a PR and defensive replacement. Adding a trio of more expensive pitchers in the later stages made their two minimum salary pickups expendable. Let's meet them!
Jake Bird (RHP) - 61 AIP, R2 and a much better card than his ERA would suggest.
Angel Zerpa (LHP) - 72 AIP, can serve as an opener if you're so inclined.
Bird needs to go one way or another, but Zerpa's still useful given that only 3 of our 14 current pitchers are LH. I didn't pay much and wouldn't expect much in return from these gentlemen. Cash and picks are always nice but I would also send cash along with them to add a useful batter. In particular, they could use another decent part-time OF. They'll also need a 3rd catcher to preserve PA for Smith and Jackson, but that can be filled in the waiver draft if another opportunity doesn't arise.
Okay, that's all for now. Does anyone want to make a deal?
