Game 1: Burnes vs. Alcantara
Both pitchers started reasonably strong - Burnes scattering a few walks in the early innings without trouble before Aaron Judge took advantage of a third inning baserunner to get things going with a 2 run bomb. The Pioneers could not advance a runner past second till Perezs solo shot in the 7th. Brooklyn had steadily added to their lead and Redwood could not make up the ground. Both pitchers went the distance and Brooklyn takes game 1 at home 7-2.

Game 2: Kelly vs. Scherzer
Once again Brooklyn struck first with a Mike Trout homer in the home second. Kelly pitched well but was finally chased to the showers in the sixth after a one out walk. Caleb Thielbar started strong, retiring Aaron Judge with a strikeout but seemed out of gas when Jose Ramirez immediately joined the party with his two run blast. That began a parade of six (!) Redwood relievers. They kept the Blow Monkeys off the board but a pair of solo shots from Hoerner and Schwarber couldnt close the gap. Brooklyn takes both games at home for a 2-0 series lead.

Game 3: DeGrom vs. Hill
Delicate flower Jacob DeGrom told the press he was ready to make his appearance in the series although warned fans that he was on a pitch count and not to expect him in the later games. Fan excitement was short-lived though as Cedric Mullins was having none of it. The Redwood outfielder hit a solo shot in the second and a two-run bomb in the fourth. Novelty DH Matt Carpenter did get the visitors on the board with his own moonshot but that was all the action Brooklyn could assemble. A smaller parade of four Pioneer relievers closed out the game and secured the 4-1 win for Redwood.

Game 4: Alcantara vs. Burnes
Game 1 rematch in Redwood and the Pioneers were looking to even the series and establish some momentum. Fan excitement was muted early when part-time catcher Yan Gomes hit a two-run blast in the top of the second inning shortly after Jose Ramirez got the visitors on the board with his own solo shot. Redwood had their opportunities and stayed close but team spirts seemed unable to recover from two seemingly no-doubt home run balls that landed in gloves deep at the center field wall. Alcantara pitched a complete game but uncharacteristically didnt miss many bats - only two strikeouts all night. 5-2 Brooklyn Final

Game 5: Kershaw vs. Kelly
Up 3-1 on the series Brooklyn looked to close things out on the road behind lefty Clayton Kershaw while Game 2 starter Merrill Kelly tried to keep Redwoods playoff run alive and prevent the visitors from celebrating on their field. Kershaw pitched well, scattering 6 hits and no walks over 7 innings of work. Redwood seemed to be pressing - striking out 11 times against Kershaw and 14 on the game. Kelly had a similarly strong start - holding the vaunted Brooklyn offense to a mere 2 hits, with five walks. Unfortunately for the home team, one of those hits in the second inning was a Teoscar Hernandez homer after a Trout walk. Kyle Schwarber led off the seventh with a solo shot but that was all the offense for the night. When the dust settled, the Brooklyn Blow Monkeys closed out the series with a tight 2-1 win.

Overall the series was much closer than the 4-1 result would indicate. All games were close and could easily have gone the other way. My congratulations to Rick on a fine team and season and my thanks for a fun NetPlay series. Strat always amazes me at home much better NetPlay works than it used to and at the same time, how much it still sucks.

Both teams seemed to have a similar approach to the game with a huge percentage of runs coming from the long ball. Brooklyn out-homered Redwood 9-7 on the series, which was probably the difference. 

Series MVP is Sandy Alcantara who pitched two complete games for a 2-0 record and 1.00 ERA for the series. As a reward he gets to play for the Salem Sand Sharks next year. Dont let that discourage you from the World Series!
