Going for broke, Brooklyn goes all in on a 2-2 challenge trade with division rival the Austin Greyhounds.
From Brooklyn:
The good Will Smith (LA Catcher) and Josh Hader
And Austin sends:
Jose Ramirez and Clay Holmes
With any luck this will help BRK finally make an interesting run and will further enable whatever complicated tax dodge Eric is attempting with his franchise move.
This fix a big hole on Brooklyn but of course causes more issues. Look for an updated trade needs post!
Confirmed. It's a sad day in Austin and especially Shiner where Ramirez starred for 8 seasons. Jose led Shiner to 6 straight playoff appearances, including the miraculous 2020 championship. He's their career leader in Runs, RBI, and Doubles. I hoped that he might play his entire career with the team, but had to make a move so the younger Devers, Franco and Bichette could play together. There's a similar challenge looming with Oneil Cruz, but that may get sorted out by next season.
Huge thanks to Jose Ramirez for his excellent performance and best of luck in Brooklyn. Smaller thanks to Holmes, who was only here for one season. We are excited to welcome the new additions, particularly catcher Will Smith. Of course this created another position logjam, but I'll address that in a separate post. The complicated tax dodge is going according to plan!
Oh yeah, the part of Jon's message that isn't confirmed is about this being a trade between division rivals. That's an easy mistake given all the moving and name changing, but Austin traded Ramirez to the other league where they won't have to face him, at least this season. Brooklyn's division rival is Deadwood and they are VERY unhappy about this deal. Sorry, guys!
