The Bali Dawgs took their 97-65 record to Terre Haute to face the Explosion and their 108 wins. Bali started now-healthy Tyler Glasnow while Terre Haute went with long-time ace Walker Buehler.
Belt put the home team on the board first with a long solo homer in the bottom of the first. Yordan Alvarez doubled in the second and Chris Taylor walked. After a Verdugo fly out Contreras hit a sharp liners to third that looked like trouble...and it was, as Suarez bobbled it and then threw it away for a single and error and an Albies ground out made it 3-0.
Meanwhile, Buehler was rolling, giving up a hit in the 4th and another in the 7th but without any real threat. it was still 3-0 in the 7th when Suarez atoned for his misplay for demolishing a Buehler slider for a long homer to cut the lead to 3-1. The Explosion got 2 men on in the bottom of the inning but Bali went to Staumont to extinguish the threat. The Dawgs went down in order in the 8th but Alvarez struck with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to give Terre Haute its 3-run lead back.
Dominic Leone came on to try for the save. After a K, Gurriel bashed no-doubt homer and with two out Conor Joe worked a walk to bring the tying run to the plate in Mark Canha....who struck out on a 3-2 pitch called a strike by the home plate ump resulting in Cahna screaming and rending his garments.
So Terre Haute moves on to face San Francisco while Bali has to take their great season and go home, looking once again for a way to somehow, some way, some day defeat Harmony Grove for the division.
Congrats to Aaron on a great season that unfortunately ended on a low note.
