Wow, that really escalated quickly! After their wild FA spending spree, the Zombies have 5 new batters and a very crowded bench. However, they failed to address their pitching needs. Since I can't go back in time and make different decisions, I'll try to move forward with more trades instead! Surprise has some players on their roster who may be more valuable to other teams, so I'll put them on the block.
Please meet the trade candidates:
1) Asdrubal Cabrera (3B/1B, 692 APA) - Veteran switch-hitter has been a key Zombie since 2016 in several different roles, but won't play much on this roster. He has everyday PA, but is best used as a corner IF, DH, or PH vs. LHP. He has a strong clutch rating and big power vs. LHP that would play better in a different park. As a bonus, he's expected to play a lot at 2B for Arizona this season.
2) Justin Upton (LF, 540 APA) - Veteran RH batter struggled early last year, but came on late and can still provide power vs. LHP. Again, it would play better elsewhere, so I'll make him available. He should still be a starter with the Angels this season.
3) Ty Buttrey (RHP, 85 AIP) - His manager Joe Maddon recently said that he has the potential to be one of the best relievers in baseball, so he has that going for him. He was not one of the best in 2020, but does have a lot of innings and a coveted closer 3 rating.
4) Jordan Lyles (RHP, UL) - Veteran put up a sweet 7.02 ERA in his 1st season with the Rangers, but his card isn't that bad. So I wouldn't mind keeping him around for mop-up work, but he's available if anyone wants him more.
So, what is Surprise seeking in exchange for such attractive players? The big need at this point is more quality pitching, but I'll also settle for cash and/or picks to get some later. It would also be nice to add another OF with good defense who is at least competent with the bat, but that's not really an option until we move Upton and/or Cabrera. Bring on the fabulous offers!
