Now that Surprise has achieved their primary 2020 goal of making the Ross Brothers Reunion happen, they can focus some attention on figuring out the rest of the roster. It's currently a strange mix of youngsters and veterans, with pieces that don't fit together optimally. They definitely have some players who might be more valuable to teams trying to compete this season, so I might as well float some names and see what happens.
Amed Rosario (SS) - He's actually one of the youngsters, but is stuck at DH and maybe OF (!) for SUR, so presumably would have more value playing shortstop.
Asdrubal Cabrera (3B/2B) - Very solid switch hitter with pretty good numbers on both sides and clutch hitting magic. He also won a couple championships with SUR and one with WAS in MLB, so he's a PROVEN WINNER.
Joey Votto (1B) - Off year for the veteran, but still gets on base and has enough pop to be dangerous. Also won 2 championships with Surprise.
Jordan Lyles (SP) - Currently our best starter, but this team won't be good anyway, so what the heck.
Pedro Strop (RP) - Yes I matched his C bid, but would still consider dealing him with sufficient incentive.
Cole Tucker (SS) - A talent youngster who may be SS of the future for PIT, but probably not for SUR, so he's expendable.
Jon DuPlantier (SP/RP) - Another talented youngster, but only 41 AIP for this season. He's minors eligible, if that appeals.
Okay, so what would I want for these fabulous prizes? I'm so glad that you asked! I'm really just looking for players at the major league level who have a good shot at contributing to the next good Surprise team. Opportunities are available at every position but 2B and SS, where we have an embarrassment of riches. OF is a particular need at the moment, but moving one of the corner IF listed above would open a big hole.
I'll stop there for now and eagerly await your fabulous offers!
