After winning that epic series with Camden, I decided to finally make my first trade of the offseason. It's only fitting that this would happen with our frequent trading partner from Bali.
Surprise sends Starling Marte and Will Smith to Bali in exchange for Gavin Lux, Jackie Bradley Jr. and the Bali #3.
The Zombies drafted Marte in the 5th round WAY back in 2010 and he's been on the active roster since 2013, playing a key role in the team's success since then, including 3 championships. Will Smith only played one season for us, but was pretty good. Best of luck to both of them in Bali. Given how often these teams trade, they might be back again someday. The key to this deal was bringing back Lux, who was foolishly traded away a couple seasons ago to help keep the playoff run alive.
As for JBJ, he's cool but available if the price is right. The Zombies still have a bunch of veterans who can help contenders. Notable batters include Jackie Bradley Jr. Justin Turner, Mark Canha, James McCann, Freddy Galvis, Asdrubal Cabrera, Lorenzo Cain, Aaron Hicks, and Joey Votto. The pitching staff took an ugly turn to confirm our rebuilding plans, but there are still a few useful starters in Miles Mikolas, Jordan Lyles, and David Price. I should note that many of these guys are very cheap, so I'm happy to keep them around if the right offer doesn't come along. I'm mostly focused on acquiring young MLB talent. There's plenty of opportunities everywhere but the MIF. Elite prospects, draft picks, bounce-back candidates, and cash could be of interest, but Lux is an excellent example of what I want to add.
