After the Redwood players laid a collective egg in the 2018 MLB season, it looks like the best path forward is to retool the team, as there are just too many holes to fill to reasonably expect to be competitive next season. That said, there are still some very strong players that are now available as the team looks to rebuild for the 2020 season, so youth/potential, draft picks, and cash is welcomed. Just about everyone on the roster is available, but a few of the highlights are:
Sean Doolittle - May well have the top closer card in the set in allowing just 21 hits and 6 walks (just 27 baserunners) in 45 innings with 60 K's and a 1.60 ERA. He's also pretty cheap at just B3 240.
Justin Smoak - Hit just .242 but coupled with a strong OBP (.350), good power (34 2B's, 25 HR's), and excellent defense (projected as 2e1 at 1B), he can help just about any team out there. He has a decent enough OBP versus lefties so he doesn't hurt you, but he rakes against righties (.366 OBP and 20 HR's in 335 AB's).
Kevan Smith - If you need a catcher against lefties, its awfully tough to do better than this guy. He hit a whopping .438 with a .481 OBP and .625 SLG!
Blake Parker - Solid righty reliever who can also close games. Posted a 3.26 ERA over 66 innings and will likely have a 4 closer rating. Held righties to a .231 average.
Justin Wilson - Solid lefty reliever with a dependable history of strat cards. Posted a 3.46 ERA, held lefties to a .191 average and you don't have pull him against the righties, who hit just .244.
Cory Gearrin - Another solid righty reliever card with a 3.77 ERA, held hitters to a .255 average and .336 OBP, while having a slight backwards tendency with a .241 average against lefties.
Gio Gonzalez - Solid lefty starting pitcher with a 4.21 ERA, 32 starts, and 171 IP. You can also assign him a relief rating for good measure, as he held lefties to a .219 average, .261 OBP, and .336 SLG.
Chase Anderson - Solid right starting pitcher with a 3.93 ERA, 30 starts, and 158 IP. Allowed just 131 hits 57 walks in those 158 innings. A slight backwards split with lefties hitting just .217.
Mike Montgomery - Solid lefty starter/reliever with a 3.99 ERA over 19 starts and 124 IP.
Andrew Cashner - If you need innings and are looking for a bounceback candidate, Cashner fits the bill. He had 153 IP over 28 starts with a 5.29 ERA is hitter-friendly Baltiimore.
Miguel Rojas - Not an offensive force this year with his .252 average, but is very valuable as a backup infielder, projected as a 3e4 at SS, 3e6 at 2B, 3e5 at 3B, and 3e14 at 1B with an A Bunt rating. Plenty of usage with 514 PA's.
Cameron Maybin - Strong defensive OFer, likely 2 range rating in all fields. Projected as having 34 On-Base chances against lefties and 35 chances against righties.
Other potentially useful pieces available are Jake Marisnick (1 rating in CF with good pop), Gregor Blanco (strong defense in the OF), ad Gorkys Hernandez (another strong defensive OFer with good pop and usage of 442 PA's).
