In my active yet strange imagination, I see many of you sitting around in proverbial darkness and saying to yourselves: "Wow! I desperately want to make a trade with Eric, but I'm just not sure how. If only someone out there would light the way before it's too late."
Wait! Don't abandon hope just yet. I'm here now to help you!
As you may know, SUR is still trying to find a new home for lefty OF Nori Aoki. The return could involve cash, prospect(s), pick(s), adequate SP, and/or another player who better fits our bench. I'm also willing to send something along with Aoki if justified.
Inexplicably, some of you (even Rick!) just can't find it in your cold dark hearts to accept Aoki into your lives. However, I still want to help you make a deal with me.
I just can't seem to stop trying to complete, so SUR would be interested in potential upgrades in the following areas and could offer the incumbent plus other pick/prospect considerations:
Starting Pitcher (Adalberto Mejia) - Rotation is good overall, but would consider trading this young lefty for someone with more and better starts this year
Relief Pitcher (?) - Bullpen is also good overall, but only Miller is truly great so I would definitely be interested in adding another elite option
2B (Cabrera) - Was glad to keep him at his CFA price, but if I can do better...
SS (Escobar) - I can dream about getting more offense from this spot instead of just great defense
RF (Gonzalez/Guyer) - Upgrading either side of this platoon would be nice, but I'm content to roll with them. At least Travis didn't get Gonzalez...
Backup IF (Sardinas?) - I kinda hate to spend a roster spot on someone whose only purpose is to be a defensive replacement at 2B, although he is good at that
Okay, I think that covers it for now, but I'm always open to hearing your suggestions.
If you would rather trade with Shiner instead, they are still trying to move veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan, who would be a strong platoon option vs. LHP. They could also part with RHP Trevor Cahill, LOOGY Jerry Blevins and perhaps others if the price is right. They have a full major league roster, so would be looking for picks, prospects, and/or cash for those guys. However, they would definitely be interested in adding a youngish starter with upside, potentially offering some combination of player/pick/prospect/cash. Hey, a guy can dream.
I sincerely hope this is helpful enough for you to make a deal with me soon. Good luck!
