So the ballpark ratings proposal went down in flames, in which it was proposed that managers be allowed to create their own ratings. Many of the comments revolved around the sentiment that it was unfair to allow that much freedom to managers to completely create their own ratings, possibly increasing a home field advantage.
However, this was not my first choice for the proposal, so I'd like some feedback on how managers might feel about my initial idea, allowing managers to "edit" the ballpark ratings of their chosen park, and then allowing those edits to be frozen indefinitely.
The proposal would allow you to choose a rating within two points of your ballpark's actual rating, up or down, for both singles and HR's, lefties and righties. For example, if your ballpark has 1-3 Singles and 1-13 Homeruns, you would be allowed to choose your rating from 1-1 to 1-5 on Singles and 1-11 to 1-15 on HR's, for both righties and lefties. Of course, you could choose to not edit at all. Once you chose your edited ratings, you could keep those rating indefinitely, but you would not be allowed any further edits for 3 years.
Is this something that is more palatable to everyone?
I was more in favor of changing the rule to teams being able to choose their ballpark every season instead of every 3 season.
My main concern was how much work was it going to cause Tom and Eric having to change every team's ballparks.
I also don't think teams know exactly how their ballpark will play until they get a season under their belt, yes they can plan walls to make the ballpark hitter or pitcher friendly but I don't think they have as much control as your rule proposed.
I also agree since strat is a replay league the ballparks change every year based on the structure of the real team's roster, not how the ballpark actually plays that season.
