Surprise closed a deal with the new Twin Peaks franchise today, trading four young pitchers (Ross Detwiler, Sean Nolin, Joe Wieland, and Drake Britton) in exchange for an older pitcher who can help more now (Marco Estrada) and a defense-minded reserve infielder (Cliff Pennington). Start printing those World Series tickets now! They'll be totally worthless, but feel free to print some anyway to decorate your room.
Adding Estrada fills out the SUR rotation for now, while also making it easier for me to move Edwin Jackson or Justin Grimm to address other needs. The main one is at 2B, where I'd really like to find someone who can contribute both offensively and defensively. Scutaro's hitting with Pennington's defense would work great, but I'm still waiting on an official ruling about whether I'm allowed to do that.
So my updated trade bait for a new 2b includes: Edwin Jackson, Justin Grimm, Marco Scutaro, the newly acquired Pennington, draft picks, cash, and maybe prospects (although I don't have quite as many to spare anymore). I might also consider moving either McLouth or Venable, although it's kind of nice having so much OF depth.
