So after yet another brutal playoff washout, I'm focued once more on my needs for next season. I've talked to a number of folks about some possibilities but really hadn't gotten my arms around what next year looks like.
Things I need:
Starts, good starts. 2 guys who could plausibly mix with Cliff Lee for a playoff series.
3B - Encaracion was a huge breakthrough this year (Thanks Tom!) but he mostly played 1B/DH. I need a one-year solution here (always happy to take more)
Things I have to offer.
1B:
Teixeira is coming off an A contract and I have other options at the position
Brandon Belt - will probably keep him, I still believe, but as I said have strength here so could move him.
SS:
Jose Reyes - also coming off an A, happy to pay him as I don't have a solid backup but as part of a deal where a reasonable SS comes back, certainly willing to entertain.
2B:
Darwin Barney - shiny new gold glove, but limited offense. Happy to keep him on the bench but he would have a lot of value to a rebuilding club.
