In their 8th trade of this offseason, Surprise broke with tradition somewhat by trading an old dude for another old dude. More precisely, they traded lefty closer "Everyday" Eddie Guardado to Jersey in exchange for backup catcher Mike Redmond, $300K, and Jersey's 7th round pick.
Is that it for Surprise trades? Well, maybe. I would still like to find a nice new home for rookie reliever Marcos Carvajal. The hard-throwing righty did a nice job in the Rockies pen as a Rule 5 pick, considering that he was coming directly from A ball and didn't turn 21 until August. I'd like to keep him, but he doesn't really fit in with our championship run. Closer Miguel Batista is also available, but I'm more content to throw him into the C auction.
So, what do we need at this point? Not much, but more cash and draft picks are always appreciated. I would also be interested in adding a nice lefty bat for the bench and another quality lefty for the pen to replace Eddie.
