Still smarting from coming up just short in a 7-game World Series battle with Santa Fe, the Shiner Blondes were eager to make a bold move. They did that today, adding ace lefty Cole Hamels, reliever Casey Janssen and the BOS #6 in exchange for a dear talent price of Gary Sanchez, Kyle Parker, and the SHI #1.
No pressure Cole, but you had better be frakkin' awesome for us!
With this deal, the SHI pitching staff looks set and the farm system looks much weaker than it did before all the trades. However, they still have some excess players at the major league level, most notably Mark Buehrle, who could be packaged to upgrade another position. Candidates include Willingham (LF/DH), Cabrera (OF), Young (CF), Weeks (2B), Ryan (SS), Roberts (3B), and even Markakis (RF) I guess. Who wants to trade me a big bat?
