Dispersal Draft

ASB has been up for around 43 hours for their third round pick.  Given that the caliber of players involved is not high at this point and that ASB has not been responding to email inquiries, I am going to give them until 8 or so Central to pick and then they will be temporarily skipped and allowed to make their pick at any future time while the dispersal draft is ongoing.

This should just about destroy any thoughts of having an email draft replace either the IOD, C or Fa bidding.

For what it's worth, I actually think that this process has gone very well.  But I would be very strongly opposed to having an email draft replace the IOD or the C/FA auction.

Not that anyone should care, but if this league did move to an e-mail IOD or C/FA, I would quit.  I hate the e-mail draft that much.  I can't believe anyone would rather deal with the e-mail nonsense instead of devoting a few hours to an online draft / auction twice a year.

I agree this particular email draft has not gone well.  The reason is because no parameters were put in place to allow the draft to move along instead of waiting for 43 hours for some one to pick.  Had pick deadlines been put in place then the draft would already be over and no one would be complaining about how long it took.

Don't worry Dave, Ken or any of the rest of you too afraid to try something new that might actually benefit the league, I am not going to make a rule proposal for an email draft.  In fact I have sworn off actually submitting anymore rule changes.

By the way, because I don't usually get to participate in the IOD chat and I think participation every year by proxy is an inherent disadvantage, instead of quitting, I'm going to sell and trade all my picks for both teams and fill my minor league roster spots and sit out the iod.

Tom,

I don't think fear of change has anything to do with anyone's stance.  You point out that drafting by proxy is a disadvantage.  I agree.  However, I do not sit at a computer all day.  You're solution to my dilemna is to draft by proxy.  Granted, my proxy list would need to be 20 or so names long as opposed to 300 or so names long.  However, I would likely have to create a list every round just in case I couldn't get back to my computer.  I'm sorry, but that puts me at a disadvantage.

I also enjoy the IOD and C/FA the way it is.  I like the suspense/excitement of waiting for my pick hoping that Eric or Warren, as usually is the case, don't take my guy.  Those two days of the year are the reason I like this league over others.  I've done several e-mail drafts and don't like them an any way, shape, or form.

I understand your frustration because you have a different point of view.  I'm surprised that you have to draft by proxy most years.  I think the draft is scheduled well in advance and gives most the chance to make arrangements.

At least you wouldn't have a Texas - Nebraska conflict at that time of the year.

Dave,

Ha, touche' on the Tex-Neb reference.  There have been years I have made both auction and iod, but more recently I have not, or I have jumped in at the end of the iod.  Even scheduling ahead, giving up 2 Saturday nights within a month to sit at the computer for 6 hours has become increasingly difficult.  Baseball tournaments, dance recitals, church, family get together's etc all are going to take priority over a baseball league draft.

My frustration over the iod is just one of several frustrating factors for me.  That's my problem though.  Thanks for responding.

Tom
