As I gear up for DRC 07, I first wanted to take a review of the 06 ARBA draft. Player values have changed since last march.

1st RD
SUP Derrick Tuirnbow- drafted for his killer closer card. Had ineffecctive season and lost closer's job.                       stock   DOWN
KC  Chris Duffy- I thought he was overdrafted in this spot and I still see him as a 4th OF with speed and defense.     stock   DOWN
MAN  Evan Longoria- Billed as the best college bat available. Did not disappoint as is now one of the top prospects in baseball.     stock   UP
ERI  Elvis Andrus-  I have felt he was overrated last year and I am still skeptical about him as a future star.                  stock   UNCHANGED
PET  Jose Tabata-  My top rated prospect from last year. Still looks like a future star to me.                                        stock    UP
SFE  Colby Rasmus-  Stl's top posotion prospect and future RF. He had solid season and should be appearing nightly ar Busch by this fall.   stock  UNCHANGED
BTM Edison Volquez-  highly rated ranger pitcher who was underachieving. Needs consolidation season in AAA but I doubt Tex will wait that long.     stock  DOWN
SFE  Max Scherzer- He had solid season at Mizz St but has still is only 1st rd MLB that has failed to sign.          stock UNCHANGED
SFE  Nolan Reimold-  Another pl,ayer like Rasmus who had nice season and is ticketed to be i Balt by sept         stock UNCHANGED
AUS Mike MacDougal- drafted for his reliever card but still has same problem in that he doesn't translate his plus stuff into getting hitters out.    stock  DOWN
BRK Cesar Carillo-  Had injury plagued season but is still regarded as SD's top pitching prospect.                     stock UNCHANGED
DAV  Ronny Cedeno-  I thought he was the future ss in Chn. I was wrong unless he starts to control the strike zone better.     stock  DOWN
FTW  Andrew Brackman- plusses:  7' tall and throws 100 mph  minusses:  doesn't miss enough bats and con trol within the strike zone.
GDP Mark Pawelek- as Dean Woermer said"fat drunk and stupis is no way to go through life" show up in shape this year moron!     stock  DOWN
MON Robinson Tejada- I guess he was drafted for starts. Al better stop drafting these type of guys in the 1st rd or his draft priviledges will be rescinded.     stock  DOWN
IOW- Emil Brown-  preformed better than I expected and looks to be a solid MLB lf.              stock UNCHANGED
WAS  Chris Spurling-  not who I would have used a #1 on.        stock  DOWN
SUP  Brandon Erbe- hard throwing rh who exceeded my expectations and I had him highly rated. Gentlemen meet your new "draft god"  Eric    stock   UP
HDT  David Price- I drafted him here over Ellsbury because he is my boss' daughter's boyfriend. Likely #1 pick this june in the MLB draft.   stock   UP
PBG  Josh Johnson- One of many quality arms in Florida. I expect to be a solid mid rotation pitcher.   stock  UNCHANGED
SFE Wade Davis-  a little disappointing but still a solid pitching prospect.    stock UNCHANGED
SFE  Matt Kemp   I thought he was overrated and his Ks would catch up to him. He exceled in ML tryout and should be a solid regular in LA   stock UNCHANGED
GDP Jeff Bianchi- Needs to stay healthy for a season to find out how good he really is.     stock DOWN
BUD  Fernando Martinez- vying with Tabata for the title of best 18yo OF on the planet.         stock   UP
HOU  Brandon Jones. performed well between A/AA but still missed time to injury. Can afford no more down time.
SFE  Garrett Mock-   An era of %.00 just doesn't get it done     stock  DOWN
SFe  Garret Olsen-  Had nice season and still looks like a #2-3 type sp     stock UNCHANGED

some notable later picks
2nd rd  C Parmalee ELY, M Garza WHI, J Ellsbury HDT
3rd rd   C Bucholz SOS
4th   K Casto KC, C Willems ELY
5th   J Smoak DAV, M Harrison BLF
6th   P Alvarez ERI, T Snider BLF
7th   J Mcgee SUP, B Lincoln HDT
20th rd   C Hunter SD#1 prospect  CMD

I'm sure I missed some. DRC 07 will come over the weekend.

Keith -

Many thanks for doing this!  I always love the draft recaps.

Nolan Reimold thanks you for your overly kind assessment of his season.  Expect a fruit basket in the mail.  Matt Kemp and his .988 OPS at AAA as a 21-year-old would like to meet with you to discuss his spirited objections regarding his "Unchanged" ranking, however.

Most importantly, however, I need to ensure that Eric B does not get more than is his due, as it was Kevin's SPR team that drafted Erbe.

Heh.  I actually didn't even notice the "Draft God" comment when I skimmed through as Erbe was indeed drafted by Kevin's SPR team.  Technically I did draft for him that year, but following his list accurately shouldn't provide much support for my "Draft God" case.  I am proud of picking some quality pitchers last year for my 2 teams (e.g., Buchholtz, Veal, Bowden, Slowey, McGee), but I certainly had my share of duds also.  Hopefully this year's top heavy draft will prove worthy of my investment.  Perhaps I should have stocked up on picks in the middle rounds instead as that's where I've done much of my best work over the years.  Time will tell...

I too enjoy the report cards and thank Keith for doing it.  Ftw had a pretty decent draft in 2006 getting in the 2nd rd Yunel Escobar who could be a regular at 2B or a utiilty guy, and Eric Campbell a power hitting 3b who could move to 2b.  After wasting 3rd and 4th rd picks on crappy pitching cards, Ftw scored with Estanislau Abreu in the 5th, Brad Suttle in the 6th (2008 1st rounder), and hard throwing college pitchers Josh Lindblom and Cody Satterwhite in the 7th and 8th rounds.  Probably would give my 2006 draft a B- on year later.  Brackman will be a 1st rounder this year.  I lose points for the crappy cards taken in 3rd and 4th rounds.

Look forward to Keith's assessment of 2007.  Especially since I wasnt even present and just had my guys drafted off a list.  My own assessment is nothing spectacular, but some interesting pieces.
