The recent posting of the Cmd/Har with Nik trades has brought to the forefront an issue that has bothered me for some time. This is just my opinion (as the senior ranking longest continious manager in the league), but; 2 team managers are and have always been bad for the league. My biggest gripe is that they gain an unfair advantage when it comes to trading, simply put they have 2 teams inwhich to make trades work. Let me say right upfront that Travis did nothing illegal. I use the trades Travis made with Tim as an example only because I have some working knowledge of what Tim was looking for. Doug and Tim had been in lengthy discussions about Wilson the SS. Tim had made it clear upfront that he had to have a shortstop back, which brings me back to the Har/Cmd and Nik trades. I'm not getting into the equality of the trades, I think ALL trades are subjective and everyone has their own opinion of the equality of each trade posted. We have always treated 2 team managers as something that was necessary. We have legislated them as best we can, i.e. can only vote once, must pay dues for 2 teams, can't trade amonst themselves and a player cannot go from team 1 to team 2 via trades within the same year. The one thing we cannot control is the packaging of players between the 2 teams into what amounts to 1 giant trade. You can make all the justifcations you want, but; this IS AN ADVANTAGE and therefore gives 1 team an adavantage over the rest of the 1 team managers. I'm in no way impuning the honor of any 2 team managers present or past ( I was one for about 6 weeks and felt very uncomfortable with the process). I have held this opinion for quite sometime (just ask Gary we get into lengthy discussions about it atleast once or twice a year). You can say what you want but Wilson would not have wound up on one of Travis' teams unless the other team was willing to give up Vizquel. I would like to see the commissioner put a ban on any further permanant 2 team manager situations. When a current team opens up and a new manager can not be found a CARETAKER for the team would be appointed. When a new manager is found the CARETAKER would have to give up the team.
how about a rule...that if a 2 owner team makes a trade with one of his team...he is forbidden to make a trade with that same team over a year....for example i owe 2 teams man and jer.....say man makes a trade with kc.....than jer my 2nd team cannot make a trade with kc until next year...i feel this would be a deterrent what ken brought up
I believe that there is a flip side to your arguement as well, being that I own two teams and can't make trades between them essentially I am at a disadvantage because I have one less team to make trades with than the rest of the league. As long as the trades are fair I don't see the difference in my trades then say Dave trading with me to get Jason Schmidt and then trading Schmidt for Posada.
I must also say that the following statement is false, "You can say what you want but Wilson would not have wound up on one of Travis' teams unless the other team was willing to give up Vizquel", if you look at my Harmony Grove team I have Juan Uribe on that team and Tim did ask me if I was willing to trade Vizquel or Uribe.
I don't have a problem with placing a ban on any new permanent 2 team owners, but I don't think the current 2 team owners should have to give up one of their teams. Further, I don't think the commissioner has the power to ban 2 team owners, I believe it would have to be voted on by the league.
I agree. Tom does not nor should he have the power to TAKE a team away from a 2 team manager. They have always been grandfathered in as acceptible. The "disadvantage" of not having one team to trade with is laughable considering the significant advantage of being able to PACKAGE players between 2 teams. The issue of who brings up the availibility of a player would only be important in a ethics issue. I have not choosen to bring up the ethical side of the equation. The mere fact that you had on another team what Tim needed to make the trade happens only strengthens my concerns. As for Art's suggestions, I think we have legislated about all be can on the issue. Thats why I would hope for a ban on future 2 team managers (but keep all present 2 team managers as long as they want a second team).
