This series was Springfield Avengers at Bronaugh Barnstormers. Would the Barnstormers be the Banes of my existence, or would Todd be saying "those Dahm Avengers"?
Game 1 Hunter Greene vs Paul Skenes
BRO's Skenes was at his absolute scariest in this one. 8 1/3 innings, 1 hit, and 15 strikeouts. Hunter Greene kept up with him for a couple innings but got roughed up in the 3rd inning and the game was basically already over. BRO would finish the game with 13 hits, including two homers by Eugenio Suarez. BRO 7, SPR 0
Game 2 Jake DeGrom vs Chris Sale
An error by Jacob Wilson opened the door for a 4 run first inning off Degrom, all with two out and all unearned. When Kelly added a solo homer in the bottom of the second it was looking grim. But Springfield went to the pen in the 3rd and battled back, getting two homers from Buxton, and ultimately tying the game 6-6 in the 7th inning. After both teams plated the ghost runner in the 10th and neither team did so in the 11th, Buxton hit his 3rd two run homer of the game in the top of the 12th and BRO loaded the bases but didn't score in the bottom of the inning. SPR 9, BRO 7
Game 3 Emmett Sheehan vs Michael Wacha
Springfield's turn to strike first, getting 3 in the top of the first on back to back homers by Stanton and Carpenter and knocking Wacha out in the 3rd. But BRO struck back with their own back to back homers by... Jeremy Pena and Otto Lopez? The flurry of early action left it SPR 6, BRO 4 after three innings, but that was still the score after seven, as Sheehan settled in for SPR and King provided an outstanding relief stint for BRO. In the bottom of the 8th, a Marsh double and a pinch single by Robert gave BRO a two run rally- and not only were we headed for extra innings again, the score was 6-6 again after 9. Both teams got their ghost runner to 3rd with less than two out in the 10th but neither got him home. But in the 11th, Lowe hit a 2 out RBI double for SPR, and Estevez worked around an error to hold BRO scoreless in the bottom of the inning. SPR 7, BRO 6
Entertaining series against a great team and a great opponent in Todd. I was very fortunate to advance, considering it more or less felt like Bronaugh won one and then there were two ties.
