Adding Contreras and Hernandez has made a few Surprise FA acquisitions less essential to their plans this season. All 3 of the exciting players below are now available in return for cash, prospects, and/or pick considerations. If you want to get more creative, we can certainly talk about whether anyone you can spare would be a better fit for our roster. For reference, I'll note what I paid for them in the FA auction. Without further ado, let's meet the contestants.
1) Andrew McCutchen ($100K) - This one hurts because I really love this living legend. However, he's unlikely to get significant playing time for SUR at this point. He has 606 APA with a solid hitting card. N power both ways and good OB, particularly vs. LH. As a bonus, he's off to a great start with the Rangers! He is rated in LF and RF if you like to live on the edge.
2) Jose Fermin ($60K) - Youngster has a strong hitting card both ways, including clutch powers. Rated for 2B, 3B, LF, and RF. So what's the catch? He has only 77 APA. I'd love to keep him around but have more pressing roster needs.
3) Zack Short ($40K) - Crushed LHP, even more so in the clutch, and has a decent rating at SS. Catch is he has only 62 APA.
Cutch is no longer for sale, unless his new team wants to sell him. The living legend is taking his talents to Salem and Surprise is collecting $100K to use for other nefarious purposes. We wish Cutch all the best, except when he plays against us!
