An intra-divisional matchup featuring 2 of the top 5 teams in terms of ERA. A low scoring series in store?
Game 1: A Brennan home run in the 3rd gives the home team an early lead, but BRO threatens in the 5th,loading the bases with one out before Ashby and Hoffman get strikeouts of Schanuel and Peralta. BRO does even the game in the 7th on a Vaughn RBI double. EGR then loads the bases in the bottom of the inning with 1 out to chase Skenes and is so happy at the prospect of seeing him go that they get to new reliever Cade Smith for a single and a Rojas double to take a 4-1 lead. The lead goes to 5-1 in the 8th on a Massey double, and a Whitfield leadoff single in the 9th goes for naught as Abreu induces a DP grounder from Tatis to effectively end the threat. EGR 5, BRO 1.
Game 2: EGR jumps out to another early lead on a Rooker solo HR in the 1st and a Castellanos 2-run HR in the 3rd. BRO gets one back in the 5th on a Pena double and a couple of ground outs. EHR starter Crawford gets pulled after yielding a 1-out single to Tatis in the 6th, but the EGR bullpen takes over and allows only a Freidl double over the next 3.2 innings. EGR 3, BRO 1
So, a fairly low scoring series after all, with the local 9 doing just enough to take the short series.
Congrats to Todd on an excellent year overall! I don't look forward to facing Skenes and Wheeler et al again next year.
