Austin's big deal to acquire a long-term solution at catcher (and also Josh Hader) did make their C auction moves look even worse. It was already rather dubious that with all the big departures, their only 2 acquisitions were 2 veteran catchers. Now it's even worse because they don't need those guys and still have a bunch of holes. Narvaez can stay as Smith's backup but Gary Sanchez needs a new home. If your team needs a catcher, I encourage you to take a closer look. Strat was quite generous with his defensive ratings and he has good power vs. RHP with 518 APA. As his agent says, you could do a LOT worse.
As for the return, Austin isn't that picky. I'm just looking to recoup my $210K investment in some form. My preference would be a youngish player for any position other that C, SS, or 3B. I would be willing to add cash if it's someone more valuable than Sanchez. Taking someone less valuable plus cash or other future considerations (pick, prospect) is also an option as is straight cash. If you're interested, please let me know and we can probably work something else. As it stands, AUS has only 9 batters and 3 off them are catchers. Sanchez can also sort of play 1B, but I'd really rather not. There are also only 8 pitchers at this point, so plenty of opportunity for playing time! I'd like to get this sorted out before the FA auction as Austin may be ready to do some shopping.
