Marquez vs Curtiss

Marquez was definitely not on his game and gave up 4 straight single before being pulled with no outs.  Raley and Armstrong weren't much better and put CMD in a 5-0 hole early.  CMD scored a run in the 2nd on a Sanchez single but HAR answered on a Harper HR.  The CMD bullpen would settle in and hold HAR scoreless the rest of the way while the CMD offense chipped away.  CMD scored 3 in the 4th on a Panik SF and Acuna double.  Trailing by 2 in the 7th Goldschmidt looked to tie the game up with a 2 run HR but Hamilton with his 1 defense climbed the wall and robbed the HR.  Yelich hit a solo shot in the 9th to bring CMD within 1 but Marshall struck out Acuna and D'Arnaud.  HAR 6-5

Urias vs Lynn

HAR would jump out early again with 2 runs in the 1st on a 2 out Tellez double after an intentional walk to Stassi.  Ozuna would add a solo shot in the 3rd and Wendle added another run in the 4th.  CMD finally got on the board in the 5th on a Gallo single.  The score would stay 4-1 into the 9th.  CMD loaded the bases in the 9th with no outs but Gallegos got Seager to hit into a run scoring DP then struck out Gallo to end the game.  HAR 4-2

Kim vs Woodruff

Headed home Camden would try to keep from falling into a 0-3 death sentence.  HAR scored 1st with a Tellez solo shot in the 2nd.  Seager tied it up in the 3rd with a HR of his own only to have his HR answered by Harper with his own in the 4th.  The game would remain scoreless until the 9th when Harper would hit his second HR of the game.  Gallegos and Bass would close out the 9th and put CMD in a 3-0 hole.  HAR 3-1

Fairbanks vs Marquez

Would Camden really be swept in the WS?  CMD jumped on the board first with a Schoop 2 run HR in the 2nd.  Wendle doubled in a run in the 3rd for HAR.  CMD answered with 3 runs in the 4th on a Sanchez 2 run HR and Gallo groundout.  HAR added a run in the 8th on a Locastro solo HR but that was as close as they would get.  CMD 5-2

Lynn vs Keuchel

Neither starting pitcher was up to the task as Keuchel gave up a run in the 1st and was pulled before he could finish the inning.  Lynn was even worse giving up a leadoff HR to Acuna then a 2 run blast to Seager.  Ozuna pulled HAR to within 1 with a solo HR in the 3rd.  HAR tied the game up in the 6th on another clutch Tellez 2 out double scoring a run.  Machado answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot.  Schoop added an insurance run in the 8th with his own solo shot but it wouldn't be necessary.  CMD 5-3

Woodruff vs Curtiss

Headed home HAR would look to close out the series and not play in a winner take all game 7.  CMD scored first with an incredibly hot Schoop hitting a 2 run HR.  Wendle would answer with 1 run in the 3rd on his own solo HR.  The bullpens would take over and no one would score again until CMD added an insurance run on a Soler ph double. Hendriks would be called on to throw 3 innings to keep CMD alive and force a game 7.  CMD 3-1

Marquez vs Kim

Would HAR really blow a 3-0 series lead and lose yet another WS?  Or would CMD lose their 2nd WS in a row 3-4?  On to game 7!  Both bullpens were running on fumes with Anderson and Hendriks done for CMD and Garcia and Gallegos done for HAR, with many pitchers on both teams having less than 1 inning left, which one would think would lead to a high scoring affair.....well with strat of course not!  CMD jumped out first scoring a run on no hits, Acuna walked, stole a base, moved to 3rd on a fly out and scored on a sac fly by Cruz.  Kim would walk the next 3 batters and wouldn't finish the inning, taxing an already tired HAR bullpen.  The score would stay CMD 1-0 until the 6th with both bullpens keeping the hitters in check.  In the bottom of the 6th a Locastro ph single would set the stage for Harper heroics again as he hit a 2 run HR to give HAR their first lead of the game.  Leading 2-1 with no good arms left in the bullpen Diaz would be called on in the 8th to try and save the game, he struck out Machado and Schoop to end the 8th.  HAR went scoreless in the 8th.  Leading 2-1 in the 9th Diaz gave up a leadoff single to Seager but would bounce back, striking out Gallo and Acuna.  D'Arnaud was CMDs last hope but Diaz got him to ground into a game ending out.  HAR 2-1

HAR wins their first ever WS in 20+ years and several tries.  After winning their first WS in 2018 and missing the WS in 2019, CMD follows up their 2020 WS 3-4 loss with yet another 3-4 WS loss.

Not surprised the series went 7 games but definitely a surprise after CMD dropped the first 3 games.  Harper was definitely the hero for HAR with 4 HRs in 7 games, Tellez played a surprisingly good second fiddle to Harper with some big hits.  Schoop put CMD on his back (500 avg and 3 HRs) but it wasn't enough.  Neither team's starters were very good minus CMDs Woodruff.  Strong bullpens carried both teams to game 7 with HAR barely coming out on top.

Nice to FINALLY get a WS for HAR and to have both my teams make the WS....even nicer to break the Eric Brasher curse and to finally have some bragging rights on Eric and Tom with both my teams making the WS in the same year...much like the LEGENDARY Keith Bernard....blankstare

Hope everyone has a great New Years!

Congratulations to Travis on an amazingly dominant playoff run that does bring back bad memories of the Keith Era.  Im sure Trav would agree that this wasnt his best Harmony Grove team, but they were the one that had a lucky streak at the right time.  Thats a very big monkey off their back at last.  So its time for HAR finally let another team win that division, right?

My condolences to Rick, whose teams deserved better than a couple demoralizing sweeps.  Sometimes you just run into the buzzsaw of destiny.  In retrospect, Shiner taking HAR to 7 games is more impressive since nobody else could beat his teams.

This closes out the ARBA 2021 season, just before years end.  On to 2022!

Worst regular season record since I took the team over in 2003 and went 72-90.  And I was wrong in my previous post, only took me 19 years (and 5 WS appearances) to win a WS with HAR.....no

Coincidentally enough, Laramie/Surprise also finally won their first WS in their 19th season. They lost "only" 3 WS before then, but had plenty of other playoff failures with the other 9 teams that had 98+ wins. Good times...

Congrats to Travis - quite the feat to be champ of both leagues!  Not sure how to live in a world where HAR can win the championship, but I will have to satisfy myself with CMD's cruel loss.
