Just over a year ago, Shiner traded for elite closer Kirby Yates and he made huge contributions to their championship season.  So the deal certainly worked out well for the team, but seems to have inflicted a brutal curse on poor Kirby in real life.  He only lasted 6 games in 2020 and had surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow.  Things seemed to be looking up as he signed a big contract with the Blue Jays, but his elbow betrayed him again. So instead he just celebrated his birthday by having Tommy John surgery and will miss the 2021 season.  He could certainly still come back and dominate in 2022, but I think his only hope of overcoming this curse is to escape the Shiner roster.  He did a great job for us, so I owe him a chance at salvation.
