top pick-Fernando Martinez Nyn OF 1st rd 24th overall
draft- M Latos Hs, J Jeffries Hs, J Flores Hou, M Sapp Hs, F Freeman Hs, C McConnell Kc, GGreen Hs, A Iwamura Jap, D DeShields Ms
player profile- Martinez is a 5 tool OF that the mets signed for 7 figures. He projects as the prototypical stud rf.
assesment: Martinez could end up anywhere on the prospect scale from Ruben Mateo to Vlad Guerrero. I really like Flores but the rest of the draft is very hard to evaluate due to all the hs players. I will subtract a level for drafting an 8th grader.
top pick-Clay Hensley SD RP carded 2nd rd 44th overall
draft- B Johnson card, A Escobar Mil, M Harrison Atl, T Snider Hs, T Pugh Hs, E Goodell Hs, W Peralta Mil
player profile- Hensley is a rhp who projects as a number 3-4 sp or a set up man. he made all the way to SD last aug and will compete for a spot in the rotation.
assesment- Hensley should be an usable pitcher and I'm sure that there is a keeper in the rest of this draft
draft- A Gallarag Tex, E Perez card, W Rodriguez card, D Ardoin card, P Alvarez Van
player profile- Andrus is a potential all star ss. He has all 5 tools and only needs to develop the baseball skills to go with his unlimited potetential
assesment- Andrus was at the top of all the prospect lists. Not much depth to Eri's draft, maybe Wandy will be a usable sp.
top pick- Clay Bucholz Bos Rhp 3rd rd 87th overall
draft- S Fasano card, R Flores card, R Patterson Tor, D Jackson card, F Del Juice Hou, J Shull Oak, J Corsaletti SD, R Alvarado Oak, M Schlart Tex, A Davis Fla, R Ray Tor, A Cunningham Chw, S Schoop Fla
player profile- Bucholz was a top pick of Bos from the 05 draft. He has excellent stuff and projects as a sp.
assesment- Sos tried to make up for a lack of a top pick by loading up in the latter rounds. Bucholz is a keeper and there a several of the guys further down that have potential.
A C grade isn't so bad in Keith's grading scale, but I can't help but wonder if it would have been better had SOS gotten credit for Turnbow and John Jaso (our 1st and 4th picks). His
Turnbow was a horrible pick. I don't know how you even thought of drafting him that high. I think it should go down as a worse pick than Chito Martinez!
Sorry Eric, just trying to get the monkey (Keith?) off my back.
Sorry Tom, there are plenty of easy targets to share the painful spotlight with the infamous Chito...but Turnbow has done nothing yet to invalidate his lofty draft status. Of course, there's still plenty of opportunity for him to make me regret it.
