Camden loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with 1 out. Santana would almost work out of the jam, getting D'Arnaud to pop out before getting Gallo to ground to 1st only to see Sano boot the ball giving Camden a 1-0 lead. The lead would stand until the 7th when Springer took Madson deep to tie the game. Yelich led of the bottom of the 7th with a K followed by a Souza walk. Rusin was brought in to face Davis who promptly took him deep giving Cadmen the lead again 3-1. Bowman was brought in to face Arenado who walked and was followed up by a D'Arnaud home run. Camden would hold the lead. Camden 5-1
Game 2: Happ vs Bumgarner
Camden would again get on the board in the 1st. Broxton single and took 3rd on a sb and throwing error. Souza would drive him in with a single. Suzuki would tie it up the next inning with a lead off homerun. A double by Santana followed by walks to Beckham and Fowler would load the bases. Bumgarner would K Seager but gave up a Crawford sac fly to lose the lead and end his day. Camden tied the score in the 5th on a Broxton single and stolen base followed by a Souza single to left and error by Fowler. Madson would enter the game in the 6th and was greeted by a Santana single. Santana would steal 2nd on the next pitch. After getting Beckham and Fowler out Madson looked like he was going to work out of trouble before giving up a single to Seager giving East Greenwich the lead back. A Crawford single would tire Madson and bring Albers into the game who would give up a Sanchez single giving East Greenwich an insurance run. East Greenwich wouldn't relinquish the lead. East Greenwich 4-2
Game 3: Walker vs Carrasco
Camden would score first plating a single run in the 4th on a Souza walk and 2 out triple by Arenado. An Arenado homerun in the 7th gave Camden an insurance run. Camden would go on to shut out East Greenwich behind Walker, Madson, and Albers who combined for 15 strikeouts in the game. Camden 2-0
Game 4: Taillon vs Santana
Camden would again strike first on a Davis solo homerun. Camden would get it going again in the 4th on Davis and Arenado singles but Santana battled back with a K of Gallo and pop up by Maxwell only to follow it up with a wild pitch plating a run. East Greenwich would get on the board in the 4th with doubles by Fowler and Adams chasing Taillon from the game and bringing on Holland who gave up a double of his own to Seager tying the game. After plunking Herrera, Holland was pulled for Kimbrel who ended the threat. The score would remain tied until the 9th. Betances was brought in to pitch the 9th. He would walk D'Arnaud and get no help from Suzuki on a passed ball. Revere would bunt D'Arnaud over to 3rd who would then score on a Gordon single. Gordon would steal 2nd and go to 3rd on a wild pitch then score on a Russell double. Colome would stay in to pitch the bottom of the 9th and locked down the win. Camden 4-2
Game 5: Marquez vs Faria
Trying to stay alive East Greenwich would strike first. After a Beckham K Springer would walk followed by a Santana fly out. Marquez got Sano to ground back to him looking to end the inning but instead he booted the ball putting runners at 1st and 3rd. With a chance to get out of the inning Marquez would give up a single to Seager plating a run. Marquez still had a chance to limit the damage but served up a gopher ball to Suzuki giving East Greenwich a 4-0 lead. Camden would answer back in the 2nd with a Souza lead off homerun. A Gallo single and Russell would plate another run with Russell thrown out trying to take second. Camden would scratch out another run in the 3rd on singles by Gordon and Maxwell followed by a Davis sac fly. A Gallo walk, Revere single, and Arenado sac fly would even the score at 4 in the 4th. With Madson on to pitch the 4th Fowler would walk followed by a Sanchez single and Crawford walk. Looking to get out of the jam Madson got Nava to fly out and K'd Springer. Madson then got Santana to ground to sure handed gold glover Dee Gordon to end the inning...but no, he would boot the ball giving the one run lead back to East Greenwich. Camden would look to answer in the 6th on 4 straight singles from Revere, Arenado, Russell, and Gordon resulting in 2 runs and Camden retaking the lead. After a sac bunt from Travis, Crawford would gift Camden another run on an error. Camden would take the 7-5 lead into the bottom of the 9th. With the Camden bullpen exhausted, Colome would stay in to try and bring Camden its first championship. Nava and Springer would greet him with lead off singles. With Colome now tired Camden would turn to a tired Kimbrel. Kimbrel would get Santana on a K before giving up a long fly ball to masher Adams who was looking for the walk off jack but the ball would die just short of the wall (missed ballpark HR). Down to their last out East Greenwich could only watch as Kimbrel K'd Seager to end the game. Camden 7-5
This was a great series as every game but the first was decided by 2 runs. Mike shows us all how easy it is to get to the WS by taking his East Greenwich team in about a 10th of the time it took me to take Camden to their first WS and very easily (minus a few unlucky rolls) could have been the 3rd owner to knock both of my teams out of the playoffs in the same year. Camden was my ARBA expansion team in 1996 (Gary and Jeff convinced me to play so Jeff and I would have something to discuss during class our freshman year in college instead of paying attention) and this was their first WS appearance, winning it in their first try (while my Harmony Grove team has been 4 times and NEVER won...stupid).
Congrats again to Mike on a great team and series!
Wait a minute, whats this? We finally let Travis win one? That cant be right! I demand a full investigation!
Oh well, at least the Harmony Grove Curse continues and it somehow took Travis even longer to win his 1st than it did for me, despite oh so many playoff teams. Congratulations! It was obviously long overdue. Congratulations also to Mike for his 1st ARBA WS appearance.
