In their previous meeting, the Umpires of Rome pummeled Clayton Kershaw, winning 12-3, so the team came in expecting to put some runs on the board.

Except that Kershaw is really, REALLY good (he K'd 11 over 8 innings, giving up 1 run on a Melvin- you'll always be BJ to me- Upton).

And so is Marco Estrada, who started for Rome and trades 0's with Kershaw for 5 innings, before giving way to a cadre of relievers for Rome (Javier Lopez proving to be ageless and Logan Verrett unhittable in the 6th, Carlos Villanueva in the 7th and 8th, Robbie Ross giving up a run in the top of the 9th on singles by Choo and Pujols, but and Chris Hatcher limiting the damage and pitching the 10th).

We'll pick up play in the top of the 11th.. Edwin Jackson pitching for Rome (maybe we should have saved some of our cadre?), gives up a lead off single to Choo, and then a double to DiDi Gregarious, putting Goose Island up by a run with closer Ken Giles coming on for the bottom of the inning.

A-rod singled to lead things off (who says he's not clutch?), made it to second on a Sac bunt by Ben Revere, and scored on a single by Yonder Alonso (Tie Game!). The next batter, Joc Pederson hit a single and Alonso would try to score. There was a play at the plate, and Strat informed me that the trailing runner had advanced (apparently Alonso was out???).

Pederson on 2nd, Goo walked Alcedes Escobar to face Gerardo Parra, who promptly drove a double into the gap, scoring Pederson and sending Rome on to Surprise, where the team will try to kill off the Zombies (again?)

Congratulations, Mike!

Your reward is a visit to lovely Surprise, where the always hungry Zombies await.  See you soon!
