No-hitter #2

Can't let Tom get the only one this year. Jose Fernandez' throws a no-hitter in his first start of the year. Albeit it was against Kansas City. However, while KC is improving, two of their best hitters (Goldschmidt and Middlebrooks) went down to injury in game one of the series. While that weakened the offense considerably, a no-hitter is still a great accomplishment. Fernandez mowed down the first seven hitters before Ian Desmond allowed a base runner with a two base error in the third. Fernandez then walked Hechevarria. With runners on first and second and one out, he settled down to strike out the next two and went on to retire 20 straight batters for the 2-0 win. Sixteen of the 27 outs came on the pitcher card.  I have been in the league since inception (1982) with a 3 year hiatus while Jeff was playing HS ball. Not sure, but I believe this is only the second no-hitter by an Assassin. Was really sweating those last three outs.

Note: Roark no-hit KC thru 5 innings of the next game before Cain hit a one out double in the 6th.

Wow! Wasn't giving KC the credit they were due. Didn't realize they had won so many games this year. Knew their pitching was decent as they held me in check for most of the games. Apologies to Doug for dissing his team. Does make me feel a lot better about throwing a no-hitter now, though.

Congrats to Austin!  Even after all these years and games it feels awesome to get one of these.
