Would Shiner be able to mount an incredible awe-inspiring comeback?
No.
Cole Hamels, so good in Game 2, pitched like crap, allowing 5 home runs in 5 innings of work, while Matt Moore gave up only 1 earned run in his 6 innings of work. Nate Schierholtz capped off his time in Shiner with a 2-run shot in the 9th, but it was too little too late and Santa Fe capped off the Series with a 7-4 victory.
David Wright was named MVP for his .364 / .417 / .864 line with 3 HR and 8 RBI in the 5 games. For the playoffs, he hit .385 / .455 / .718 in 19 games with 23 RBI.
Congrats to Eric for another great Shiner season. I think SHI was the better team this year (as was BRK for that matter), but sometimes you just don't get the rolls. With SHI and SFE both rebuilding next season, the league will finally get new representatives in the World Series.
What are these outrageous lies?!?!? Shiner could never have suffered such a massive collapse in the World Series!!!
Frakking Strat. I've seen a lot of ridiculous stuff over the years and had many great teams suddenly turn into pumpkins at the worst times. However, the violent swing from leading 3-0 in the 9th inning of G2 to getting steamrolled in 5 games was a uniquely painful experience that I hope never to repeat. I agree that SHI was the better team, but losing Willingham really weakened the offense and Tom just kept getting all the rolls. And so this Shiner team ends their dominant era on a sour note. I wish that it had at least been a good series, even if we ended up losing. Ugh. Oh well, on to the future!
Congratulations to Tom on yet another Strat championship. He made the most of a somewhat limited team, at least compared to past juggernauts, and took advantage of the opportunities provided by my uncharacteristically generous pitching and defense. I'm determined to make another run with Surprise in 2014 and play someone else for a change!
