Surprise continued their major offseason overhaul with trade #6. This time, they acquired veteran OF Dave Roberts and $50K from Whitehorse in exchange for prospects Cesar Ramos, Martin Prado, and Jamie Vermilyea. Roberts is our 8th new player, half OF, which is a lot of turnover for a team that won 126 games last season before collapsing in the playoffs.
Okay, so what's next? I really should pay attention to my other team at some point, but still can't tear my focus from Surprise. They don't have many needs left, but are still seeking a backup catcher, LH reliever, and perhaps another lefty bat off the bench for the PH/DH mix. The cupboard is not entirely bare, as we still can offer closer Miguel Batista, rookie RH reliever Marcos Carvajal, 2B/SS Nick Punto (nearly 500 PA), draft picks, and prospects (yes we have a few left). I could be persuaded to part with other quality relievers like Eddie Guardado, Todd Williams, and Akinori Otsuka if a particularly appealing LH reliever or catcher is involved. I would also welcome offers of cash, picks, and/or prospects for Batista, Punto and Carvajal as they just don't fit in. If you would like to help me upgrade at one of our other positions, that would be nice also. Bring on those bright ideas!
