The Astros snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last night was eerily similar to Ft. Worth against Grand Prarie in the late 80's, early 90's ARBA League Championship Series.  In one case Dave Winfield hit a game winning home run needing a 1 to hit the hr.  And Keith rolled that 20 sided dice and magically produced the 1 needed to hit the hr and win.

I've suffered being an Astro's fan for about 35 years.  When Eckstein got on in the 9th, the bottom fell out of my stomach.  When Pujols came to the plate I knew what was coming.  I've seen it all before in 1980 and 1986.  I feel so bad for the old Astros and Biggio and Bagwell to get so close.  I know they still have two games to play.....but I have a bad feeling.

Oh yeah, that was just a stunningly brutal loss last night.  It could be tough to bounce back from that one...and I'm not sure how much more disappointment this franchise and city can take!

while it is true that winfield did roll a 1, it must be noted that 2-20 was a double and with clemens on the mound the game was over with the double. it is just brutal to see the 1. there is also a dice roll context that other gms are unaware of. tom has a history of being on the wrong end of crushing miracle die rolls vs me in a multitude of games. the greatest of which involves a highly improbable combination of dice that resulted in the premature deaths of both Lee and Jackson at sharsburg va. tom had a pencil in his mouth as the die were read and promptly bit through the pencil as he was throwing dice across the room. tom was spitting shards of wood and led for minutes afterward as I was rolling on the floor laughing my ass off.

i have been an astros fan my entire life. i have followed the team since 1968 and I am quite prepared for another crushing defeat. i think the only way to get the 'stros to the world series would be if somehow tom would switch alliegance and become a cardinals fan. all these years i thought the 'stros were a cursed franchise. i have come to the painful conclusion that it is not the 'stros that are cursed but rather it is stearns. for the love of all that is holy tom, please become a cardinals. tom, i beg of you to do it.
