Rule proposal

A governance/dues structure kind of thing only.

Increase dues by $5 to allow league to purchase a Stat tracking package from whoever. (2-tier vote; first vote a yes-no on proposal; second vote to decide among which of several nominated stat services).

Feel free to suggest stat services and fill us in on their merits.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. What would a stat service do for us and why would we want it. I'm not opposed to having one. I just want to know what benefit it would be to the league. I'm asking this in the public forum so that it can be answered one time instead of many times inividually.

I brought this up last spring. This will not affect the way games are played or how stats are reported or anything.

Years ago, Karl Dalley set us up on a website where he loaded everyone's roster and you could go check everyone's year to date stats. I thought it was a very useful tool for tracking the competition and research for trade negotiations.

I cannot find a place where we can do this for free anymore. Most services seem to run about $100 a year to keep an entire league--each team gets his own password, etc. to make changes and whatnot. The services sometime also come with news reports concerning injuries, rotation and lineup changes, etc.

The general idea is that we will be able to pull up each team's players and stats on one page, which should be a very handy tool for all of us during the trade period. At $5 a person, I think that would be quite a bargain.

And, I suppose, some might even enjoy unofficial Rotisserie-style races. I don't think I'll pay much attention to that, but it might be an additional item of entertainment. To make sure this stat service retains the purpose for which it is bought, we would have to make sure it shows year to date stats for all players, not just the stats during those periods that any manager designates his players as "active."

So, $5 each for easy to access news and all players' stats sorted by ARBA teams and positions. That is the idea behind the proposal.

So this would  be a league vote on whether we want a stat service.  Dues are at the discretion of the commisioner currently (up to $30.00).  I don't think we need to set a precedent of the league voting on the dues.  If we do, I'll happily propose that we decrease the dues $5.00!

Yeah, I guess you are right about the dues being at the discretion of the commissioner. Proposal should just be for acquiring a stat service.

Everyone should be advised that stat services seem to run about $100, so, if the commissioner passes the cost through, then dues will increase about $5 a year.

Would this rule be incorporated into the rule book?  What language do you propose?  This might work better posed as a "Hey, I'd like a stat service.  Anyone else interested in chipping in?" sort of question.  Not that I'm not interested, but a vote could pass by one.  Then almost half the league has a stat service they really don't want and they have to pay an extra fin for it.

Wasn't considering altering the rule book. Wasn't considering this to go past one year, unless the league wanted it. Just thought we should give it a try and see how we like it. Don't want to start a civil war over it. Didn't think $5 would be that big a deal. It might win 15-0. It might lose 1-12. If a bunch of people tell me they really don't want to waste money on this, then I will likely withdraw proposal.

I guess it's just to give Tom (or his successor) an idea whether this would be "will of the league," so he could act on it without feeling he would be imposing his will on the league, as per league rules. (Which is not to suggest that he and I have discussed this at any length or are plotting anything or that he had anything to do with the idea. The idea was mine alone and my only communication with Tom regarding it came last spring. I think he said he already had a personal subscription to TQ or something.)

Another member benefit on some sites--when you sign in, you can pull up a page that shows how your guys did yesterday. No need to scroll through all boxscores. I know Roto Times does that--I had a week or whatever free trial last spring. I don't know everything TQ gives you.
