The Assassin season is officially over. Looking at my team for next year, I have too many holes to fill and not enough money to make it happen. I can't pay Abreu or Schilling. So it is keep the affordable core of players, trade the expensive guys to the contenders or make money on them in the C bidding and put the marginal players on C contracts. Hope and pray for a .500 record. My holes are 2b, C, and SP. I really need money and can always use draft picks.
Abreu - Losing 'A' status. A really good card for a contender with several years of playing time left. I have received two offers. A straight up offer for Helton. Although this would probably be a fair trade, Helton fills no needs for the direction I am going. Jeff has offered Kent and minor leaguers. Kent fills the 2b need (with a really good offensive card while waiting for Antonelli) and a couple of Jeff's quality minor leaguers make this an interesting offer. I am saying this because I want everyone to know that Jeff has made the best offer. Don't complain about a father son trade if you aren't willing to make a better offer.
Schilling - Losing 'A' status. Only one offer so far. It included a request for Zimmerman in a package deal. He is definitely not available. Hard to believe that with all the posts about needing starting pitching, I have only received one offer. So I guess he winds up in the C bidding and I make money.
Now that I have determined I can't make another run next year, I think it is probably a waste to pay K-Rod an A salary for two years while I try to get back to being a contending team. I don't really have to trade him, but if someone knocks my socks off with a really good offer I will let him go. This would require a package deal with at least two high quality (STUD) minor leaguers. The rest of the package would be negotiable. Negotiable doesn't mean garbage. Bring your A game in a trade offer or stay at home.
