Russell- His power was a huge suprise to scouts. He is a lanky corner outfielder. He plays in a tough conference and his home park is not friendly to power hitters, so you cannot discount the hr totals he put up. A lot of scouts think he has holes in his swing and that better pitching will expose him. The real test will be when he gets to AA with better pitching and wood bats. He is a draft eligible soph which means he may not sign a mlb contract and return to TU for his jr season.
St Clair- Preseason consensus 1st rd talent before the injury. He pitched decentlly after returning from the arm injury as Rice's closer. Projects as a solid reliever but have to be cautious until he proves the arm injury is behind him
Keith is uncannily correct in his assessment, with the exception of course of not being able to abbreviate right; some things never change.
I've seen Russell and St. Claire both play. Russell has tremendous power that may even improve once he adds weight. He is tall and thin, not your traditional power hitting body. He broke the single season HR record for Texas, wait no he shattered it. Texas plays in a large home park, so hitting that many HR's is impressive. Especially since Texas plays so many home games. Eventhough scouts question his swing, he still hit for decent average for a college player. He also is a pretty decent fielder with a good arm. I was surprised he went to late in the draft. Not sure if it was signability (sophmore as Keith noted) or questionable swing that dropped him. My bet is he returns to Texas and with another monster season goes as a 1st rounder next year.
St. Claire will be a steal if he proves he's healthy. He is a big guy with a power arm.
